Guys,
I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong, i've been working way on this issue for the last 3 hours! I've got a basic cavity wall, i'm trying to use the split face tool, i selected the correct plane and the orange boundaries display, however if i create a complete closed lopp within the boundaries, the split face works fine. If i draw a line from boundary to boundary (orange line to orange line), the line is create but the face isn't actually split!
It's driving me crazy, ive also tried searching the web and the forum here to see if anyone else has had this issue but can't seem to find a solution. Your help would be appreciated.
Simiarly, is there a way for an underlay to display complete wall construction below (inc cavities and blocks) as opposed to just an outter outline?

" i selected the correct plane" <<< ? Are you working in a perspective or elevation?
The cavity has no bearing on the split face. This tool just splis the surface of the wall. To split the entire face, the split line has to be from boundry to boundry which means you must see the enire wall.
What issue of Revit are you on?

Hi WWHUB,
Sorry, i've mixed two separate questions there:
1.) Split Face- i was trying to split in perspective, but i have just tried again in elevation, and whilst i see a vertical line (my split line), when I go to select the wall, it is still all one module. Using RV15. Just done a quick screen shot where you can see my split line and also note that it has failed to split.
2) Q2 was about underlays in plan views.

You are at an opening! Move the line to the left off of the opening and you will see that it works. The opening is considered and edge so you need one line at the top and another at the bottom. Turn off the window to see what I am talking about.

lol, i did try this but it doesn't seem to work.
I'll show another example below. Image one shows the orange boundary, Image 2 shows the pink link as my split face line. Once i click the green tick, and try and apply a paint to the face to either side, it just selects the entire wall as shown in image 3.
I've even tried with a simple new straight wall but to no avail.

I have used split face for years, all the way through 2016, and never had a problem. So there is something else going on here. I asked what Revit and what updates but you did not say. On occasion, some issues have problems but we can't help you with that.
Try isolating the wall in view, then splitface.
Why do you say the face is not split? Is there a line after you finish the splitface?

Hi WWHUB,
Many thanks for the feedback, i thought i'd answered the question of Revit (RV15) below.
I'm so frustrated with myself- i've sussed it out! i can't believe it took me a whole day at it too! Basically, the split face was being created, it was an issue with paint. My paint toolbox is quite large, and so i was selecting the material and pressing "done" thinking the material was selected for use. However, it's transpied that the toolbox has to remain open whilst i'm selecting the split face on the drg (before pressing done!) Glad i got to the bottom of this one! thanks anyway for your help.
On my other question, do you know if there is a way to view all wall skins in underlay as i need to see my block walls of the cavity construction below in my view above. The current underlay only shows outter outline?
Many thanks,
B

Ah ha.... What we called head slap time. So simple yet so frustrating.
Probably not as an underlay but how about increasing your view depth and take off hidden line view. I don't have Revit here to check this.

Tell me about it!
Tried the view depth- currently on 2nd floor, changed view depth to level below (first floor), and tried both wall hidden lines on and off, but cant see the inner skins and/or makeup of wall below.
I'm surpised people don't find this irritating. I've got a different block costruction above, but need to ensure the blocks are all sitting one above another as a load bearing element.
