i found what i am trying to do on a gallery image from fm custom design. it is on gallery images #6 and named porch and deck addition. if you look at the gable ends the is the soffit or rake with the "bird box" return. i am glad to see it can be done, but how do i do it?

Toggle your defining soffit line to be a slope to follow the roof.

For future reference, I just figured this out. Use a slope arrow. Then in the properties of the arrow you set the constraints to slope and that will let you set the slope to match your roof.

you can do what MrBob said. Create a roof>soffit, then add your slope arrow to give it the slope you need. I have also incorporated my soffit into my fascia profile, so when I do a fascia sweep, the soffit appears with the fascia. very easy to do.
