Hi,
Does anyone know how to place a railing on a sloped/curved surface (in elevation)?
I have tried to host it on my specially modelled generic floor, but it would not let me... Why is the railing function in revit so limited
Im using Revit 2015.
Greatful for all help.

From you HELP: "You can add free-standing railings, or railings that are attached to stairs, ramps, and floors."
The Help has this section to tell you how to slope a non-hosted railing. I believe a railing can also host to a work plane but I don't have Revit here to check that.
The HELP is the first place you should learn to look at. Revit is a great tool if you learn to use the tools it provides including the HELP.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Guess it cannot be done with standard railing funktion then.
Railings can either be traight or sloped, not curved or "freeform".
I´ll just make a custom family i suppose.

you can make a curved sloped railing quite simply without a host. Start by drawing a straight line. this will be the biginning railing extension at the base of the railing. next draw an arc to follow the curve of the slope. Then select the line you just drew and at the top below the ribbon some options will appear. set the slope to sloped and the height correction to custom and enter the rise value of the slope. you can then add an extension at the top of you like and then finish sketch and you are done.

marmiketin1, You misunderstood the question as I did. The poster doesn't mean curved in plan, he means arced in elevation. Higher in the middle than the ends. No way to do this with a railing that I know of. It would be easy to do with a family.

Afaik, this is not possible with the railing tool without a host. I don’t remember exactly what I did here, but the OP question was unclear to me, so probably I placed the rail on the host and hid it just to get some clarification of his/her intent. Sorry for giving false hopes.
