I'm trying to put the curb family in my project but the version of revit that my school uses is 8.0 I know there is a program that will update older families to new versions, but is there any way for me to downgrade the family so I can use it.

Revit cannot save backward.
BTW, there is a batch utility for upgrading families on the Revit install CD/DVD.
