I have been evaluating multiple ways of dealing with a farily large project and numerous different trusses throughout the project. I have looked into grouping which performs well but I loose alot of functionality in the actual project enviornemnt. I have looked into building my own complex framing family but loose the scheduleing and tagging abilities I am looking for.
Alas. . . the truss family! Does everything I want functionality wise, schedule wise, tagging abilities. The only problem (and it is a huge one for my anticipated workflow) is that I can only assign one Structural Framing Type Family for ALL the top chords, ALL the (|)web members, All the (/) web members and ALL the bottom chords.
Ahh, revit awesomely lets me change these elements individually in the modelk after the truss is in place so I can have different sizes. Unfortunatly this can only be done per instance. I cannot select the truss type and change them all at once and I cannot select the framing element (select all instances) becasue it really doies "select ALL instances" even on different trusses.
Any thoughts on how to get multiple chord & web types to work in a truss family as type elements or select framing elements included in particular truss types?
Any comments are much appreciated.

You can have sub-families in your truss family that can be controlled by type.

WWHub, I figured you would be the one to reply. . . Can you elaborate a bit? Are you referring to loading a structural framing beam into the truss family or defining sweeps and extrusion in the family. I tried loading structural framing families into the complex framing template and lost functionality. Is a sub-family you are referring to different ( I will search the help...but appreciate your direction). If I can get this to work it will save me hours.

I have ben attempting to get something to work the way I was hoping. . . but no luck.
I have tried loading a structural framing famly into the truss template; however, a warning states "Can't create element in this family". Bummer. I alos, tried creating another truss element and loading it into the truss family and I cannot creat that family because the template is drawn in the Level 1 view.
Any additional thoughts?
