I started creating a our shared material library in our office. Let's say I used a material in a project from our material library,
and somebody uses the same material but in a different project, then he decided to edit the material,
will that affect the material in my project?

Materials in projects are fully editable - they are seperated from the library.

It's my understanding that materials are project specific. If you edit the material, brick, it will not effect a coworker's parameters of the same brick.

If you edit the brick material in the project then yes you are correct.
