So I just installed 3D max, havent used it yet. But I have experience in Revit. I only do architecture work on revit
In terms of designing the interior of a building (importing objects/familes such as appliances). Is it better to import them into revit, and play around with the rendering in 3D Max? Or do all the interior designing in 3D max (importing 3D models).

I use Revit for everything, unless you need to do rendered walkthroughs.
Its a one-stop-shop to model, render and create documents from and addins like Enscape3D give you a live rendered model for you and your clients to walk or fly around?
No redrawing, no multiple softwares, no trying to update one model in one software to catch up the development in the other.
Day in, day out I see people working in AutoCAD, transferring content to Revit, then deciding to do some designing in Sketchup, then trying to update their AutoCAD drawings from content exported from the Revit model based on design advancements made in sketchup etc etc etc.At what point did we all decide that wasting time and drawing everything over and over again is ok?
Sorry rant over.
To be honest, I haven't had a good enough reason to use 3DStudio in over 10 years.

I got these from someone's portfolio. Does anyone know what kind of a software they used to do this? Can we do this with 3D Max?
