Hey all! Recently started with a new firm and am in the process of establishing our Revit template file.  As I am creating our details I want to have the same line types in my family templates as in our project template. For instance every time I start a new Detail Component, I only have the thin, medium and thick lines.  As opposed to these names/presets I want to edit the template with lines I am using in my project  template file to keep overall consistancy.  I have found the location of the family templates but am unable to pen them.  Any ideas?

Family and project files do not use the same lines even though you may call them by the same name.  This is a very important distiction because the give you the control that you never had in CAD.

Family lines are category lines.  They are controled seperately in the VG Category that they reside under because these lines are meant to represent a model element.

So in a door family, you will have lines that are named Frame Cut or Frame Projection.  Don't think of these lines in terms of Thin, thick.  They are named to reflect what they are.

Detail families come the closest to what you may be asking about becaue you will think about these as thick, thin, dashed...  But even here, these are category lines and you will learn to appreciate the control that Revit gives you here.  Read this HELP on how to create new sub-categories:

Thanks for the reply, and I understand where you are comming from.  But for my firms needs, all of our details are utilizing 3-5 line weights, which I would like to have be the same as our project template line types.  Essentially I want our detail componet family to have the same names as our project line styles. (I understand the lines are essentially 2 different line, I just want to be consistant and name them the same since they will have the same properties, as well as for making it easier for cowrokers to understand the proportions of lines)

A work around I have been utilziing is I edited one detail componet with the lines I want, then have been saving as as I progress through all of our needed componets for our many details.
