I am relatively new to Revit so forgive me if the solution is very simple but...
I would like to put some duplex receptacles in my model, so I navigate to Systems > Electrical > Electrical Equipment. Revit says "No Electrical Equipment family is loaded inm the project. Would you like to load one now?" I choose "yes" and navigate through Electrical > Architectural > Electrical Power> Terminals and select Outlet-Duplex  and I've tried selecting other things there as well).
Nothing changes in the properties window and if I select Electrical Equipment again I get the same message. I eventually managed to load other things into that category (switchboards, panelboards, just to test things out) but I can't get the things I need.
My only thought is that I can't load things from the Architectural folder because I am using Revit MEP but the outlets I need do not exist in the MEP folder even though they are electrical. This process also doesn't work for me going through Architectural > Component > Load Family and navigating through folders as above.
Can anyone assist?
Thank you!

Revit is set up with three different disciplines available. Architectural, Structural and Systems.
First - Under the Revit R dropdown / User Interface tab, you can configure your Revit t have any combination of tab and tools available. Even though we are architects, we make all tools available to our users.
Next - When you start your project, the template you use will define what families, views and VG settings are initially included. In your views, their is a Discipline value that automatically changes how different discipline components are displayed. As architects, I often change this setting to coordination when I want to see other disciplines correctly. As MEP as you are, this will be set to any one of the three - MEP.
Finally - As of around 2013, Revit expects you to be in the correct view and using the correct menu for your operation. You can't load and place a door from the systems tab. And you can't load and place a syetems component from the architectural tab. And if you are in the correct tab but wrong view you may have trouble or if the discipline is not correct, you may not see your item.
So are you doing electrical or do you just want to show an electrical symbol? Remember - this is Revit. With all of the systems, Revit uses components that expect to be connected to create a complete system so elements are model based. However, you can do dumb CAD things by simply using symbols instead. In any discipline floor plan view, you can pick the annotations tab / pick symbol tab / pick load family / from the annotations folder / pick electrical folder / then pick duplex annotation. Tis is a symbol and can be placed in any view and any discipline. It is a generic annotation so that category must be on in VG.
