I am working on a post and beam building with an entry that I cannot get a roof on. It is to be a gable roof - but the eaves slope.

see attached pdfs. I appreciate any and all input.

Thanks

Of course the end eaves slope - that's what a gable does.

pijpiwo's posts on this thread should help you attach the under lapping roof to the wall under the roof above.

Here is my test.... you have to play around with the one wall where I show my cut.  That wall will not attached to roof so I had to sketch it.

Your response did not answer my question- if you look at the pdfs I attached- the element I am having problems with the roof is the triangular entrance structure. with a typical gable roof the Rake edge elevations vary, while the eave edge maintains a consistant elevation, with my problem it is the eave that I need to vary. Thanks

sorry - I did not see that question from what you gave us.

Do that roof as a seperate element and knotch the side of the other roof sketch after you define this roof.  Use a slope arrow instead of slope defining edges.

BTW - you should still look at my first answer to help you with the other roof.

The roof on that triangular section comes in with the eaves at the same elevation and I can't figure out how to get the eaves to slope. I did look at your attachment and it does help with those gapped area.

I have tried roof by footprint and roof by extrusion with no luck for the entrance roof- like I said it is supposed to be a gable roof (currently no roof is drawn on the entrance) I think it would have been easier if that entrance section was to get a flat roof.

thanks

Please re-read my previous post.  SEE SLOPE ARROW... Look at the sketch - the slope area goes from corner to corner on this roof by footprint.   (Sorry that you can't see the slope arrow on that roof sketch but that is what defines the slope and it looks like a centerline.)

I might approach this roof a little differently than others here. I think I would model the gable and “triangle” shed as a monolithic construct using a floor instead of a roof. That way I could edit/add points using Modify Sub Elements with a little math to determine point elevations. Just a thought.

Thank you both! I read the Centerline as the ridge- I see now that the slope arrows have to go from Ridge to the corner where the

entrance roof connects to the main building roof.

Bartholomew- Thanks- what a good idea- seems like I would have a lot of control with your idea.

Thanks again- I was really struggling with this & am under deadline.
