With the updates on 2016, we are finally getting ready to push it to our users so I have been busy with our library.  A long time ago, I modified our doors to show HM vs drywall frames, frame setback for HM, setable door swings, thresholds and shared parameters that we could schedule.  While updating, I found that finally - Autodesk has given us some new doors in 2015 .... B U T ... did they really think this out?

The good: The new doors have HM (Masonry)/drywall frames, HM frame setback, thresholds, setable door swings but no shared parameters. They have hardware but....

The Bad:

  • All HM frames come with 4" head - why?  Have they never used a 2" head? I can add a pamater to control but it should have been in there.
  • They have a 'SinglePanelWidth' but it is not shared.
  • Thresholds is not shared parameter and they can not be switched on/off in plan.   They are set not to show in the family instead of with a switch.
  • All drywall frames are 2" with a fixed 1 1/4" wall cut.  HM frame depth can be changed but can not be scheduled.
  • The new hardware is floor based!  why not face?  The HM Exterior doors have panic bars only.  No instance based opportunity to change these.  PLEASE NOTE:   You only want to nest this hardware in a door family (not shared) - otherwise the hardware will be scheduled as a door.   AutoDESK should have made hardware a category by itself.

While I appreciate some effort here, I think they could have done better.
