I am working on my first Revit project (mercifully small) and am having a hard time using a couple of the Bobrick families downloaded from Revit city. How can I change the family to allow attachment to a toilet partition rather than a wall? Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated by my one last nerve...
Thank you,
Brenda Rigol

If the family was created as a wall hosted family in Revit 8.1 there is nothing you can do except re-create the family as a non-hosted. If you need to just get something out the door quick, make a wall that is the same thickness of your toilet partition, place that wall type over the toilet partitions just so you can attach the wall hosted Bobrick families.
Future versions of Revit make fix this type of problem, but it should also be noted that most people create families in what I consider a haphazard incorrect fashion. If I was to create to Bobrick accesories I would make each one first as a non-hosted version and then if I required a hosted version I would nest the non-hosted version into the hosted family. This technique allows you to place the non-hosted version anywhere or create multiple hosted types making use of nesting the non-hosted version into a hosted type family.
The moral of this story is that while people share their families with the best of intentions, you as a user should always be wary of using them. Hopefully in the future manufactures such as Bobrick will get with the modern times and commision a qualified Reviteer to make their product families professionaly and make them available to the Revit community.

tomdinmn,
whenerver you are creating a family yourself, no matter what it is, you always create it as a non-hosted version first, then nest that non-hosted version into a host type family.
i like the concept, but i would like to know to what degree you have implemented this method and what the results have been

coreed,
All the new families I create follow the non-hosted nested into hosted technique. It works just fine and gives you the ultimate in flexability. You can create a non-hosted light fixture for example that gets nested into a ceiling host and a floor host. You can use the ceiling hosted version when yu have a ceiling and the floor hosted version when you have the underside of a floor present. You only created the geometry of the family once and got three uses out of it.
Other families benefit from multiple nested families. My new door families consist of a nested in frame, a nested in 2D swing symbology and a nested in 3D door panel. Now that you can schedule nested components nesting is the preferred way to go. It keeps family creation more managable as you create whole families from a kit of parts.

coreed,
Thanks for the flattering comments, but I really just have the benefit of three years of Revit use under my belt. I also went to the past three Autodesk University's and that is where the real masters of Revit are who humble me.
I run the Minnesota Revit Users Group (MNRUG) and have a little website and blog (needs updating though) Check it out at: www.reviteer.com
