Hello!
so my office and I have been going crazy with this one... so here is a good one for the lovers of problem-solving.
In my office we like to show in our drawings new furniture that not only has the typical new construction linetype and lineweight (black, continuous and 5 level of thickness that all other categories in the new construction phase carry) but also has an additional layer to distinguish it from existing to remain which is by having surface pattern. we have tried overriding the category and having the surface pattern be the selected hatch and then we have changed the phasing graphics so that the surface patter for the existing conditions would show solid fill in white. but when we do that the ceiling in the new construction sheet, when it is set to be existing to remain, it shows up white instead of the set ceiling pattern hatch which, in my case, should show up as a 2'x2' grey, thin line grid. i would like to find a way to tell revit to make my new furniture show with the bold black continuous line AND with the selected hatch WITHOUT overriding the phase graphics otherwise all categories are affected (even my teledata family wasn't showing up as I initially set it out to look because of the solid white surface pattern phasing graphic override.)
Also tried the "filter" option through the visibility graphics, gave the family the description "new" and added the filter for furniture so that the description that equals "new" would show up with the selected hatch but then that would mean that i would have to create multiple family types and I would like to be able to have (1) family type and let the revit phasing do the work!.
AAAAAAAH HELP!!!!

It seems to me you're trying to build in, phasing in a Family?
"You're trying to new show furniture in the existing phase"
Thats never gonna work.
When you place a Family you can only set in wich phase it is created an in wich phase it is demolished.
When I place furniture in the phase new, it will never show in the phase existing.
It's like you can see you'r baby is born but you're baby will never see how you got born becouse he/she wasn't there yet.
First try to fully understand and search the forum on, Phasing and Phase filters.
Hope this can guid you a little bit.

I did not explain myself well...while in the "phase philter: Show previous + new" and "phase: New Construction" i am trying to show new furniture not only with the typical thicker black continuous linework graphics but also with a dotted hatch to distinguish even further new furniture from existing to remain furniture.
i am just looking for a solution that allows me to have both layers of differentiation (the linework and the hatch) while only affecting the characteristics of the family category "furniture" when it is set to be "Phase Created: new construction" and " Phase Demolished: None".
hopefully this is more clear. :-/

Sorry but the program doesn't work exactly as you want unless furniture is the only thing that is new or existing. If furniture is the only thing you have to phase control then use the phase filter. That allows you to change the surface pattern for all elements of any phase.

Rethinking a little, you could add a shared parameter to the furniture cartegory and may add a filter that changes the surface pattern.

yeah that seems like the best solution. I have also thought about creating a "new" type with the desired family surface projection pattern so that everytime there is a new piece of furniture to be placed i just select the "new" type. I just am not too fond of that because that is completely voiding the phasing revit provides as an architectural software, whitout mentioning that i would have to create a new type (or modify the shared parameters for the solution you have suggested) for each piece of furniture which is fine...a little tedious but it definitely sounds like the best solution thus far! thank you!!!!

NO! - Just add a project parameter to category furniture and set that as appropriate. No family editing required.
