Hello all,
The last couple of days I've been trying to see if it's possible to, whenever cutting a section into an object/family/element, one could define what revit shows on that section cut face....the face of the cut object.
In other words, now one can define cut 2d hatch patterns in the material of an object, but what I would like to do is be able to define an actual 2d drawing (say a detail of the internals of the cut object) to be shown automaticly every time one cuts a section through that object/element....whether in a 3d view cut, or typical 2d section cut view.
I know one can create a detail callout on an area/object and show more detail in the callout view, but I want the option to show that detail drawing in any section cut for an object I choose that gets cut.
hope my question makes sense,
thanks!
PS: using Revit Arch. 2016

You can do this with a nested detail in the family - BUT I SUGGEST YOU DON'T. Here in your Help is an example of a nested detail in a mullion profile. That will lead you to how you do this.
The problem with these is you can't adjust or modify in any way from inside the project. Also, some of these, at least in the past, would appear in 3D views.

Hello,
thanks for the quick reply!
so I went ahead and followed the help on creating a sweep profile family with details comp nested in it.
it seems to work....well, kinda, in certain situations....and my question is if it can work in both.
1) after creating the detail/nested fam profile (used the simple profile template, not the "profile - hosted"), I loaded it up and tried creating an in-place-model element with a sweep, that had as a profile the nested profile family....however when cut w/ a section it didnt show the nested detail!.....tried and double checked view detail levels but nothing...
2) so I tried applying the nested profile then as a simple wall sweep part of a basic wall....and this time it worked!...showing the detail when section-cut....
my question is why wouldnt it show also in the first case?....when it's part of a stand-alone sweep modeled-in-Place?...is there anything I can do to make it show there as well?.....I'd prefer that situation, but I can live w/ the wall sweep too....
see attached view here.
