I am having an issue where if i delete a level that i have created who have seem to have assocaited with other components in the project and so get deleted also along witht the level. how can i delete the level only and or disassociate it with the other components in the project.

There are many objects in Revit that may be associated with levels. You would have to re-host each one before deleting that level. So obviously, levels should be well though out ahead of time.
What you can do,
- Hide that level in views
- Put the level in a workset that is off in all views.
