I'm working on a curtain panel family where I'm trying to nest two generic model families to document two seperate detail conditions. I want to join the two together but when I do I get a "generic error" message. That's a new one for me! Has anyone seen this before?

Looks like it is a problem with trying to nest detail components in with the respective generic models. Revit wont allow them to join if they do. Does anyone know why this limitation exists? It would be nice to nest components in families to capture varying detail conditions.

Help me understand a little better--your picture is not too clear.
You have two small separate families nested into your curtain panel, and the error is that you cannot join (anything/the two small parts together?) with join geometry?
I would not be suprised. My first instinct (without really understanding the problem) is that it'd be easier acting subtractively that additively. your second nested family could be a void. voids cut more automatically than geometry joins.

You can definitely join two generic models together. I test and verified as much. In the image, the orange highlighted item is referencing the erro, and the adjacent, mirror image of a similar element was the one to be joined. The theory of this approach was to have the generic models nested into the curtain panel family act as containers for two seperate detail conditions occurring in the same panel - each having detail component families nested into each of them respectively. What I seem to have determined is that Revit will not allow elements that have nested detail components to join together - generating the "Generic Error." Unfortunately, as a result, I have abandoned this approach and will have to place the desired details manually as they occur in the over all curtain wall system, which, is not really that bad since I wouldn't see them in anything other than a fine level detail view. Thanks for your reply and hopefully this little investigation of mine proves useful.
