I have used the edit profile to create openings in a wall however when I look at a plan view the lines are solid is there a way to get these openings to show dashed/hidden ?

I am assuming your plan view depth is set correctly, in which case your view is cutting a horizontal section right through the opening. So where the wall is cut your lines will be thickness as defined within Manage - Object Styles - Model Lines option. Where the opening is, if your view depth is again set correctly, you will be looking down from where you cut through to the sill of the opening. The lines you see there will represented as elevation lines for walls as defined within the Manage - Object Styles - Model Lines option.

If you wish to over-ride these lines just a one-off, go to modify - view - linework.
