We are starting to orgainze all of our details for our company, and was attempting to anaylize which scenario would be best for us to proceed from this point.
Here is an idea of what we have and where we are.
Tons of CAD details which are individual files ready for revit cad links.
Our end goal is to have these used in legends or detail components in multiple projects along the way. I just recognized that detail components do not have the ability to link cad, just import.
What am I missing, or do you guys have any suggestions !

- DON'T LINK - Revitize the details! This will obviously take some time but it can be done on an as need basis. Do this bt exploding the CAD in a cleanup project where all lines, text and fill patterns are swapped with your standards. NEVER EXPLODE in a true project file.
- Don't rely on file names. After revitizing, organize these Revit drafting views in a manner that allows for ease of finding and importing. We place the views in a resource project with them organized on sheets for ease of review. Door details on door detail sheet - etc.

thanks buddy, will do, and I am starting to realize keep it all in revit, use CAD as support and only reference.

Like everyone, we started with a lot of CAD standards and we did the link / import CAD initially but we soon discovered that this became a liability. People started exploding CAD in a project so they could make some changes. I have had projects where there were a couple of hundred hatch patterns that you had to scroll down through to find what you needed. Until you have to, you don't realize that these can not be bulk deleted. You have to delete one at a time and answer 'yes'. It's the same with filled regions, lines and linetypes. Cleaning up in a junk file where you don't delete, you just through the file away is so much smarter.
Not really and you don't want to but importing all the drafting views on a sheet is easy.
