I am trying to place a specific window from a manufacturer into a residential model, but I cannot load the family into the model due to a conflict between shared parameters. I downloaded the family from the manufacturer's website and when I attempt to load it I get the following error: "The shared parameter '2fe0a033-ae1e-4e62-9ea9-f08bd99bfe26' cannot be added with name 'Interior Finish' and type 'Text' because it conflicts with the existing name 'Interior Finish' and type 'Material'." I checked the "Shared Parameters" dialog in each file and cannot find anything. I am at a loss and can't seem to find any other posts addressing this specific problem. Any ideas are much appreciated.

In your model, go to Manage - settings - shared parameters and rename or delete the parameters you mention, or open the family in the family editor and do the same.
Check your family parameters in the family editor under create - properties - family types to see if those parameters ar there. Delete them if they are.

I think you need to open and edit the family and then delete the conflicting shared parameter and recreate it with a new shared parameter with a unique name then reload it.

Same problem: I must be trying to use the identical downloaded family from marvin door with the same shared parameter 2fe0a033-ae1e-4e62-9ea9-f08bd99bfe26
Followed Revit instructions... http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-18575F0E-A0F3-4032-8BAF-205991E3F3A4
What am I doing wrong? Here are the steps I took, and still get the same error message as Scott. https://goo.gl/drQQyb
In the Marvin family, I have to change from shared parameter to Family parameter (see #5 in the attachment) or else it displays only choices that are from the shared parameters of the project I am trying to insert to. tried it as "type" or "instance", no luck. Is there a way to find the folder with the shared parameters of THIS Marvin created family?

Shared parameters are much more than a name. There is special hidden coding that goes along with them. You can export any shared parameter from a family or a project to a shared parameter file of your choice, then you too can use that parameter. You can read all about that in your help.

take some time and check out PlusSpec by rubysketch.
this app is designed to run in sketchup.
looks easier and quicker to use than revit without the blasted roadblocks that are shared parameters etc.
im a revit user but, it does look promising.
and there are planty of vids on youtube.

I believe your problem is somewhere in your project. Send the question and project to autodesk.

There is a conflict between the shared parameter (Interior Finish) of the Marvin family and another family from another source that is already loaded in your project. They both are shared parameters with GUID number '2fe0a033-ae1e-4e62-9ea9-f08bd99bfe26' but the one already loaded in your project has type 'Text' and the Marvin one uses type 'Material'. Both can't coexist in the same project and therefore the error message.
Simple solution, if you don't need the other door/window families that are not Marvin, would be to delete/purge them from your project before trying to load the Marvin families.
Otherwise (if you need to also make use of the other families) open the Marvin families in the family editor and change the Interior Finish parameter to a unique name (as dgcad suggests). But check carefully to make sure there aren't nested families within the Marvin family that also use the Interior Finish parameter. If there are you must open and edit the nested families and reload them in the parent family which also has the Interior Finish parameter uniquely named.
Or if this seems too complicated, make the changes to the Interior Finish parameter in the families that aren't Marvin.

I know this thread is quite old, but the issue can occur any time and with any version, so I thought I supply a fairly simple answer for Revit 2016 and newer. The issue is as described by Richard. The problem is deleting the parameter out of the family does not solve it, as in the background Revit holds onto the shared parameter after it is deleted or replaced. The solution is to use revit Lookup which can be downloaded here https://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=35514
NOTE: this issue will only happen if the shared parameter file has been manually edited via a text editor, so DON"T!
SOLUTION: If the parameter is important than I suggest you replace the parameter with someting else. Then with the family open for editing run SnoopDB from the Revit Lookup tools. In the left panel expand out "SharedParameterElement", select you problem shared parameter and get its ID. Now go to the manage Tab in Revit and run the Select by ID tool and enter the parameters ID and click OK. The Modify ribbon will become active and you can now click the delete icon. Running SnooDb again confirms the parameter is indeed deleted

I had the same problem, but SnoopDB did the job.
Thanks Skehg
