I would like window glass to be shaded solid gray in elevation views, but retain it's transparent appearance in 3D and section views. Since the "Patterns" and "Transparency" categories for window glass are not editable in Visibility Graphics, is there another way to accomplish this? Thank-you.

Realistic views allow material settings to control so if your glass has a transparency, that will work.
If windows are built correctly, you can turn off the glass sub-category in view's VG and thus...see through windows.
