Dear all:

Maybe somebody has faced this problem before:

I need to model a stair whose stairs will be made of steel grating. This is an usual typre of stair, but I am finding very difficult to model it in revit because the only way to modify the tread is by changing its profile and material. Of course, I can not make a grated profile, so I don't find any suitable solution.

I am thinking on doing a crafted stair, by copying the gratings to do the stair, but I don't find it very BIM.

Any suggestion??

Thanks in advance!!!

Try this. With some tweaking, you can get pretty nice results (imho) using only surface pattern and their appearance setting for shaded/rendered views without actually modeling the grate. True grate tread is not available with the stair tool, afaik. It would have to be modeled separately as an extrusion and applied to the stair – not worth the effort, imho.

You can also try a rail tool. Create a stair with no treads and use rail tool with grate treads extrusion as balusters. Baluster can be modeled as an extrusion.

How did you get the material to show aligned in 3d and show up in plan?
