Is there any way to create my own dimension style, other than the standards provided by the program. I find that the tick marks are way too big and all I can modify is the lineweight. Are there downloadable families for this kind of thing, and if so where are they? Any help would be appreciated

There are no ways to create or download dimension family styles. You'll have to pick from the available tick mark styles in the dimensions type properties.
