I have a problem with displaying tags.
This is happening in all services.
All filters are turned on, all model and annotation catagories are switched on.
All services are in one workset.
When I try to place a "tag by category" I select the tray and it shows the size and system fine.
Its when I try to place the tag that it dissapears.
I have tried reloading the tags, but it doesnt work. If I open up a different job, it works fine.

Also, there are some tags already on this model.
If I select them and create similar, the new one dissapears.

Most tags in Revit are automatically placed at the centroid of the family or the center of an edge. Your view is probably cropped and that position is outside of what you see. I think there is a new switch in 2016 to help you with this but otherwise, pick free end off of the options bar when you start the tag then place it.

Thanks, but it still doesnt work. I've tried placing in the centre of the drawing, so its not the cropping.
I've also since created a new level, still no joys.
Also, picking free ends doesnt do it.
This ones foxed 5 of us so far!!!!!

Sorry but this is user error, we just have to find out what you are doing wrong.
Lets start with what Revit and what updates? We ask that you always post that because it could be the cause.
What view, tag? You say tray so I assume electrical?
Did you turn on the leader? That will help you see what is happening? Placing in the center of drawing???? You mean the center of the component?
This item is not in an underlay or above a ceiling in a reflected ceiling plan is it?
Turn on all model items as well as all annotative. Does it still not place? Is it really the right tag?

Sorry,
I'm using BDS 2015. Update unknown.
On a standard layout, floor plan, using Tag by Category (size + system) on a cable tray from electrical. Although the same problem exists in all services. Leaders have been tried being switched on and off. This same Tag is succesful in another building within the same folder within the same job number, so appears to not be a problem with the Tag. When I select the tray, the correct information is displayed as I move the mouse about the screen. It's when I go to place the Tag it dissapears.
This is not in an underlay or an RCP. All model, annotation items and filters are switched on

"....This same Tag is succesful in another building within the same folder within the same job number, so appears to not be a problem with the Tag...." It is not the tag, it is process!
Do This, create a new plan without any themplates. DON'T COPY! Create from View drop down. Now make sure evrything is on in VG and tag the tray.

Just in case I did something wrong:
View tab: selected plan views - floor plan
selected roof from list
change view template to "none"
confirm all model and annotation categories in VG are on
Select "tag by category"
Select cable tray I'm trying to tag.
Same problem.

Work with us here... We know how Revit works and this is still probably 99.9% process error.
Possible problems
- VG (Item to be tagged or tag not on)
- Filter
- Corrupted view
- If you created your view without any template to begin with then that should have eliminated these first three possibilities.
- Is your view set to the correct category?
- Your picking tag by category. Are you positive the tag is even loaded?
- You said update unknown - well look! Question mark pulldown - about revit. 2015 went through Update Release 6 if on subscription
You said other tags went away. This may be a graphics card issue.

Sorry, not sure by what you mean in 5. correct category?
Tag is definitly loaded, even reloaded to try to cure this.
Release 6 update loaded. I didnt know how to find this before (thanks).
Previously added tags are fine. Its when I try 'create similar', the created, similar tag vanishes when I try to place.
This also happens on other computers, its not just mine. I can open other jobs without a problem.
The only other idea we have had is the project was created in the wrong template. Could this be the issue?

Well, thankyou for trying. I think we have to put this one down to one of the mysteries of the universe.
I will have to use text just to get the job out.
Many thanks again

I'm sorry, I wrote: View category and I should have written View Discipline. Read THIS
"...Previously added tags are fine. Its when I try 'create similar', the created, similar tag vanishes when I try to place...."
^^ This just doesn't make any sense. How can a similar tag vanish if you say you can't even place it? I first read this that the existing tags vanished, is that what you meant? If that is so then this is a file issue.
Have you audited your file?
Have you ever reviewed errors?
How big is it?
Your office should establish a file maintenance process that includes both of the above.

It looks like it was a problem with Revit. I had licence problems this morning so tried another machine, and it is now working fine. Even other computers that had the same problem, have now started responding correctly.
Tags are now working fine, as I said "one of the mysteries of the Revit universe"
Many thanks,

Glad it is all OK for you now. It appears you had a program corruption issue - not a Revit mystery.
We might have gone to a corrupted Revit install earlier but you wrote "...This also happens on other computers, its not just mine....". Obviously that was not the case.

Sorry, but we may have sussed out the problem.
Another computer now has the problem with service pack 7 loaded.
I was on service pack 6 with the problem.
I am on a machine with SP 3 loaded and I dont have a problem.
It looks like SP's 6 and 7 with that model is the problem.
