I am trying to unlock the layers at the top of my wall. It's a simple stud wall with gyp. on both sides. I have already placed all the walls and now need to make the top extension of the gyp. 6" above the finished ceiling. I am getting an error that states, "extension layers at the top must be adjacent revit." Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

You are unlocking the two outside layers and that is not allowed.  Instead, unlock the middle adjacent layers and reset your top of wall as appropriate.
