In consideration to adding an addition to this area of this house, I first need to draw the existing roof. I have tried different ways but no sucess.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Gary
I am using 2013

This roof is basically one roof. There would need to be an additional small roof where the low roof in the front extends under the high roof. Look at the attached. To get the bump up eave just set the height for that one sketch line as I have done.

Yes, It looks like you have done it, but when I try to raise the one line, it just won't work. Error message "Can't make roof footprint"

OOPS - I missed the high roof extending over the low roof. Fixed that by adding two lines. The small one (shown as 2 1/2" here for clarity) should be as small as revit allows you to do.

Your process is somehow incorrect - look at the line's properties in my image.
Here is my final roof with the little roof underneath and joined to the main low roof.

Please forgive, but I am at a loss as to how you seem to be doing it.
Is this the way you suggest the two lines??

No - that is incorrect. The final sketch can not have any overlapping lines - it is one closed sketch. Look at my first sketch, that is the complete sketch then it was modified only at the obverlap area and the second sketch is just that portion that allows the bumped up area to pass above the hipped roof on the left.

With this, I get Errors- Cant keep target and walls joined. So I unjoin elements and then get the :Can't make roof"
This is before and after trying to raise the one sketch line 2,0"
I wonder is 2013 just won't do this?

That little return (2 line area) may be too deep. It can't reach the hip. Adjust the little line moving it to the right. You may have to play with this awhile to get it right.
This works OK in 2013.

To take WW’s suggestion even further, bring this little line to the point of eave and roof intersection (pic 1) and use Join Roof tool to extend lower roof to the wall (pic 2).

I just can't seem to do anything with it.
I started all over and drew a new model. I tried different roofs. (What do you guys use?) I like to use 8" A. Shingle/Rafter.
Just can't seem to raise the one line. Can't seem to make the Two line thing work.
Another thing, I have had to toggle through different modes to get to the "Edit Sketch and then to "finish Sketch" etc. in the last year or so. Have reinstalled the program many times to change that. Is this normal?
Would someone be able to look at my file (quite small at this point) to see what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Gary

First, did you ever install any updates? There were several for 2013 if I remember correctly. 2013 was the worst Revit edition so upgrade.
Raising the line is a simple properties setting while in the sketch. Click on the line and set the height above base << At home and no Revit so I may be using an incorrect term but it should be close to that.
Did pijpiwo post a 2013 file? If so - open and look at it. Nothing special except the height of the line and the trick to form the overhang. Start without doing that and just get the raised edge to work first.

WWWHub and pijpiwo,
Want to thank you both for your help!
I did do the update and found my dashboard back to what I remember it to be.
I did look at the sketch (Didn't understsnd it was a Revit file at first), and from it I am able to understand how an addition roof would work.
I still could not make the original roof work like you guys have. I tried all kinds of different pitches, adjusted the litle gismo, raised and lowered different walls ect. It probably has something to do with my need to use a 4" wood stud wall with siding and maybe the template I have setup.
Anyways, I do feel I can now draw the final project, due to your help.
Thanks again,
Gary

Ahhhhh.... you said "raised and lowered different walls ect...." We did not point at walls, we sketch the roof along where the eaves should be. I think that may be your problem.
