I am trying to differentiate between multiple colors of brick - the brick is the same size. So, I was looking for a way to have two materials with the same brick pattern with different solid fill background. Is there a way to do this? I am using Revit 2014. Any other suggestions or work arounds are appreciated.
FYI, I am currently using trasparent fill regions on the elevations to differentiate - but these are a hastle to update evertime the brick locations change. Also, 3D views are not consistent with the elevations.

Look into Parts. With parts you can divide a wall and apply custom pattern.

Thanks for your reply. I looked into parts, which I was not familiar with before, but this does not seem to be address the issue. I am not looking to divide a wall into parts with different colors of bricks. Instead, I am trying to have entire brick walls appear with a different shade color in hidden line mode. It appears that you are using Shaded screen mode.
It seems that using shaded screen mode for our construction drawings is a problem.
Under materials - graphics - surface pattern there are three options: pattern, color, alignment. Color refers to the pattern. If it's solid, it changes the solid color, if it's a line based pattern it changes the line color. There does not appear to be a way to manipulate the the solid background color of a pattern unless you use shading. Is this correct?

Sorry, I misread your post.
AFAIK, solid fill with line pattern will not work, but you can show brick and sand pattern, for example as on the enclosed picture, combined together in one .pat file (see here) to differentiate between two kinds of bricks. Parts tool still works.
Another option would be to use in-place component. Create brick wall component where different brick, apply material/pattern (as above) and use join tool to cut one wall out of the other. Either way, in case of edit/update, both methods require some work updating, but I think they are better options than fill regions.
