I'm trying to join 2 polygon extrusions with a revolve, and keep getting the warning, "Can't keep elements joined."
Using Revit Architecture 2015 student version.
Here's the file attachment

You actually have 3 pentagon extrusions there, not two. If yo go to the plan view and select the revolve, you will see the third hidden pentagon. That, however, is not your problem. Revit just plain doesn't like what you are doing.
From plan view, I would create the pentagons in a different family and bring them in. Then I would use voids to cut the revolve and not join the geometry. (If you have the petagons here when you create the void, the void will cut them as well and you don't want that.)
