I have created L-column family with depth and width 700mm and with thickness 300mm. I added parameters for all its dimensions and loaded it into the project.. everything is alright till this moment. I wanted another L-column with different dimensions so I just duplicate the old type and changed the dimensions. the column placed with dimensions that differs from what I had input and from the original dimensions as well!!! Any ideas??!!!!!

The problem is based on how you created the parameters for your sizes.   Are they type or instance based parameters?  If type based, which it sounds like, then you will have to create a new type to change these dimensions.   You can do that in the project.

you mean to "duplicate" in the project ( which I have tried) or to create a "new family type" in the family?

This is a fundamental process you need to know in Revit.   Click on one of your columns and under properties, pick edit type then duplicate, name it and set your new sizes.

I think you didnt understand me well or you just didnt read the whole problem.. I did duplicate the column and change the sizes but it deployed with different sizes from those i had input and from the original ones also!!

Then either post your family or we will not be able to help you.  Your family is not built correctly and we can't guess why.

Your family behaves exactly as it is designed.  Open your family and create the types there and watch what happens.  If you starte with your default type which is a backwards 'L', then add a new type and change Width to 250, the shape becomes an upside down and backwards 'L'.  Your geometry flops because the reference planes bypass each other.  I think your naming convention may be confusing you so create your types in the family.

Something is wrong with what you say is in your model.   The dimensions of the type do not match your name.

Look at the attached.  The family works correctly.  Recheck your work.

There is nothing wrong with this family it works fine.  You are doign something wrong.  The name of your family does not matter.  Click on the family and then edit type and change the dimensions to match your family name.  If you want a new one then duplicate the family>change the name>and change the dimensions under edit type.
