Can someone please stop me going stir crazy?
I am trying to create a simple parametric revolve within a family made out of a partial ellipse and a line revolved around a centre to create a solid elliptical shape.
Everytime I add a dimension to the ellipse and assign it a parameter I cannot then flex the ellipse, it just tells me that constraints cannot be met and I have to cancel changing the parameter. Whatever and however I try to add my dimension it just won't work. I have no other constraints or dimensions in place but still my ellipose refuses to flex.
I need to assign a parameter to both the x and y dimensions of the ellipse so it can be controlled, but failure is all I am getting so far in Revit Architecture 2014.
Any advice or light thron on this would be ideal.

Take a look at the picture and the family. Hope they help.

Thanks for the swift reply.
It's weird. I can create a new ellipse revolve in the family you attach, yet when I follow exactly the same procedure in a new family file it won't work (see attached).
The only difference (that I can see) is that I am using a metric generic planting family template. It just won't let me flex the elliptical revolve.

Hi awasyliw,
I followed pijpiwo method within your family and it worked fine, your "Y" dimension somehow was creating a issue and all I can think of is the point to which it was constrained.
I tried numerous times to recreate your 'Y' diminsion to explain the issue but I just couldn't, simply put, I have no idea what you did.
I have reattached your file.
Kind Regards,

Wow, that is odd. I've tried numerous ways of creating the dimensions and they all failed. Could you talk me through what you picked when creating your dimension constraints? Also setting up the parameter (although I really don't see how thast could be different).
Something odd is going on and It'd really help to understand where I'm going wrong.

Hi again,
All failed? Well The EQ and the X dimension worked perfectly fine. It was just the Y dimension I found to be the one refusing to behave. I'm assuming the family i attached previously worked fine for you?
Well the only thing i can think of is the reference line itself was the item/object being moved by the value change in the Y dimension. Again, not sure you managed it if this was the case
Well, I'd imagine my dimensions are no different to yours. But sure, I'll explain what I do.
- EQ dimension, create the dimension by selecting the blue point on the ends of the curve and then select the reference line as the centre.
- X & Y dimensions, select the reference line and then the point you wish to associate it with. Again, looking for the blue dots.
Parameter wise, nothing different. I typically make the parameter through the dimension itself by selecting the label and Add Parameter. But you can make it before hand. However, doing it this way means the dimension current value is automatically inputted as the "Value" field.
In terms of your issue here, its hard to advise in regards to trouble shooting. I find it is always best to narrow the problem down, typically trial and error so delete one dimension and try the others and so on.
The nice thing about Revit is there are frequently a few ways to achieve the same thing. So, for example, instead of having the EQ dimension you could create another dimension and label it the same as the other. See attached image.
Hope that helps.

Awasyliw, your attached family works fine. What exactly do you think is broken?

It doesn't work for me. When I change the parameter values I get a constraints error and have to cancel out.
I have tried again, and having no success still. The ones you guys are posting back on here are all working fine, yet when I try to recreate them it still won't work. I''ve just given up for now, it's really infuriating me.
