Not really a question, cause I think I got it figured, but ...file this under Steve Staffords dept of quirky:
Some walls are greyed out. nearby walls of the same type, same height, same phasing (no worksets) show normal.
Walls are on two distinct slabs at same level. If I hide the floor underneath the "grey" walls they go back to normal.
I checked the element overides for that floor and I had somewhere along the line set surface transparency to 40%.
When I set that back to 0% everything shows normally. N.B. THIS IS A FLOOR *UNDER* THE CUT PLANE AFFECTING VISIBILITY OF WALLS ABOVE THAT FLOOR.
I forgot to mention that I have the cut plane at 8' to get fire tape / wall filters through door openings.

No idea for an answer, but im curious as to what you think you got figured out about the issue and how it came to be.

What are the specs on your computer for a graphics card? Sometimes ATI or nVidia fight with the onboard i7 graphics processor.
