We are trying to get our drawings to print and read better. One of the issues we are having is getting plan drawings to show items above, for example roof above or ceiling edge above. Can we control these type items in the model realm or do we need to draft lines in the plan view which indicate these type items (if the latter, that is disappointing). Any advice much appreciated.

Good morning!
Check in the View Properties dialogue box that you have ground floor selected in the underlay/overlay selection.
You may also want to check the height in the cut plane section of View Range, this is found in the same dialogue box. What may be happening is the slice you are taking is too high for the walls to be seen

We usually set the roof we want to see as an underlay as geoffy suggested. Then we use the linework tool (LW) and pick the edge of roof, ceiling, or balcony above. Then when you turn off the underlay your linework remains.
