i am a new user to revit, i have been inserting different families into a new project, but i find that sometimes i can not place various equipment to where i want, i have a wall and i would like to place some wall mouted items, say a distribution board
i find that sometimes it works and sometimes it dosent, i select my family place it into the model, and i can place it on a wall, set height, but there are walls i have in my project where i want them and it wont let me, i get a no error symbol
why can i not do this, why will they mount ok on some walls and not others, i have a plant room, i can place on one wall but not the other, what am i doing wrong.

Not enough information.
Is this a wall based family, a face based family, a workplane based or what?
What is the difference in these walls? Did you create them? Are they in a link?

Obviously you are not understanding my question and therefore you miss the answer.
Families can be hosted in several ways. A face based family acts pretty much the same as a wall based family except it can be placed on any face whereas a wall based will only go on walls. The panels I see in the library are all faced based. But you say this is a wall based family.
Wall based families can only be hosted to walls that are in YOUR model - walls that you own. A linked wall will not host a wall based family. This is why MEP users now prefers to have face based families.
I asked you what the difference between these walls was. I will bet you that the wall that does host this item is actually in your model. It may have been copy-monitored in when the link was created or added afterwards. When you click on the walls one at a time, the linked wall's properties will be ghosted, the model wall's properties will not be ghosted.

Copy/monitor the architect's walls. Then you will own those copies and you can turn off the architect's walls. READ the HELP on the copy/monitor process.
