Hello every one,
I am not new to Revit but sometime I get stuck in something which seems (or should be) very simple. I want to make a simple family which shows a symbol, let say a circle in a model with an Instance parameter as circle’s radius for example. Then I need to have text/label which just read the parameter value (in this case the circle’s radius) and show it beside the symbol. I am just wondering if anyone could tell me what would be a procedure for such this aim?
Many thanks

You probably can do this but only with a type parameter. Use a shared parameter - detail family and a generic tag.

Hi WWWHub, thanks for your reply, type parameter isn’t the answer as the family mean to show builders hole for example, so I’ll need to have many of them and be able to change their Diameter for each instance. Attached is the family as I made it so far. What I need to have is text/label link to diameter’s parameter so it shows correct holes diameter when it change.
Any comment much appreciated.

Why bother with label? Have your instance parameters for a radius as you already have them and in the project, just use radial dimension to show the radius/diameter of the circle.

Hi Pijpiwo,
That could be a work around but my intention is to add more parameter to the family (for example holes name as RWP, DP , etc… ). So using family type isn’t certainly the answer too (as then I need to create a type for each instance that I insert which is really wrong [refer to WWHub answer]). A family must be able to have its instance parameters listed somehow, any idea?
Thanks

It did work as an instance.... Here is a detail (circle) with tag. This is junk just to see if it works. I used a shared parameter that was in our file. You will have to build your own families with the correct shared parameter.
This is 2014
