Hello,
I am using Revit 2014. I have created a parametric louver family, but am running into one last issue. The louver's width and length can be controlled, and also the quantity of fins within the louver. However, I am trying to get the length of the fins to change with the length of the louver. For the fins, I have a parameter set up that is called 'Fin Length" that subtracts 4" from the overall length (for the 2" frame on both sides). The fins are created by a sweep and whenever I try to lock the ends of the sweep's path to these reference planes, I get the error below and it won't lock.
You may not create sketch or family constraints between group members and elements which are not members of the same group.
Do I need to make a separate family for the fins? Any ideas?
Thank you!

I'd say yes, Nest the fin family.

Thanks for the reply. I still cannot get the length of the fin to stretch/skrink with the length of the overallparameter.
