hello everyone. I'm "kind of" a new member here. anyway, I have a question regarding opening an IFC File. can someone help me? I know that there must be a thread here somewhere but I kinda have a bit of an emergency here so please excuse me just for now and bear with my innocence of the thread protocol.

Hi Jingee,
I've not used the files before, but had a quick hunt about on my coffee break and found this.
http://www.augi.com/library/myth-buster-revit-ifc - seems a good guide about IFC files.
Other forums threads I came across were largely unanswered. One forum thread suggested loading the IFC into a new revit file and then saving as a revit file, linking it into your central model. Another possible solution is posted on the below thread.
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture/unable-to-open-import-ifc-files-to-revit/td-p/4810327
If this doesn't help you then post what revit version you have, the IFC file it self (if you can) and what the problem appears to be.Such as:
Is the file loading or not? Is there a error message? If so what does it say?
Is information missing? (See first thread as it might be a exporter issue)
is the file loading in the incorrect place?
Hopefully these details will allow someone more experienced than I to assist!
All the best

Thank you very much Shatner 86.
well anyway, the sitution is that I did a project with 2013 version of revit architecture and exported it to IFC. however, when I opened it using 2012, there were no response at all. no errors, no notifications, nothing. I am suspecting that the missing folders from the revit 2012 which are "families, templates, etc." (folders contained with the installation) is the culprit.
