I would like to draw a hip rafter directly on my model (see attached).
I created a work plane on the axis of the hip rafter but I CANNOT draw on this plan in the massing environment which I prefer because I can use the lines of the roof as a background. I looked all over the net for how to do that but hey, no answer that I find helpful. I am getting frustrated because I know I can do that but I am not using revit the proper way.
Please help
Thanks

I would only do this from a plan view. I can see all that I need to from there.

Alright, I figured it out after 4 hrs,
again, revit is so smart !
here it is:
1)create the reference plan (in Plan view), and give it a name
2)Move to 3D view
3) Move to the Massing & Site environment (clik on that tab)
4) click on in-place mass to enter this mode
5) give a name to your mass
6) click on "set the view-plane" and choose the "hip rafter" plan
7) to see the hip rafter plan click on the "viewer" icon and draw your shape\
select your shape you just created and click on create form
9) click on "Finish" &
VOILA!
10) you can then manipulate your form, strech it for thickness either in plan view or in 3D
Hope this helps
Ciao

The key here is to draw in the VIEWER ! and not to forget to actually create the form by clicking on FINISH

I'm sorry but why are you doing these as masses? This is not Sketchup. Revit has a lot of better tools than simple masses.

Because I have not found them yet. What should I use instead, any suggestion?

The image below was all done using beams cut by reference planes.
Note.... Rotate your view to work normally with the hips vs the normal rafters.
