I have 2 hacks that I use to make more complex line types.  to make a line type like this... http://screencast.com/t/bdBzlxA0  i have  line type called DD that is black, lineweight 6 and I draw over it with a linetype DDD that is white, dashed, lineweight 4.  The names make them easy to find and select.  for multisegmented lines, just select all/copy/paste alligned to same place and change the line type to DDD whle its still highlighted.  Kluge-y but it works.

For lines with letter sympbols like this http://screencast.com/t/GqdRTgiZqhA, I use the detail family attached.  Can change the linetypes and letter symbols.  (Got it from somewhere, sorry I cant remember who to credit).  it only does one line segement at a time, no way to "chain" it.  Its doesnt do intersections well as it is a series of straight line families and doesnt do well with short sections.

Is there a better way to do complex linetypes like these, or an exhange app?
