I cannot figure out how to change the attached 90degree elbow into a 45. Can anyone provide me with a walkthru, or possibly change it while walking me thru it?

There is nothing in this family to control the angle. The angle value is fixed. You will have to modify it.
Look at the library family: Ladder Horizontal bend. It is parametric and if you want this family to be adjustable either modify that one or use it as an example to modify yours.
BTW - You don't say what Revit. Even if I modified your family, you would not be able to use it because it upgraded when I opened it. ALWAYS state what Revit in your posts.
