OK, BEFORE YOU START TALKING ABOUT EXCEL, I DO NOT WANT TO IMPORT EXCEL.
I'm making a template and I want to organize data in a spreadsheet like manner to keep it all nice and tidy, while still being easy for others to edit. I looked at trying to use schedules, but it didn't seem to work, and using a million text boxes is gross.
An example of what I'm thinking of using this for: There is a typ. wall drafting view. under it we have three wall types (A1,A2,A4) with headers "Types" "Stud" "Thickness" "UL" in the template. A drafter may want to add a type, remove a type or add details under a header.
Thoughts? Tips?
Thanks.

Thoughts - Learn to use the power of Revit and that is in its schedules. Don't try to make Revit act like a spreadsheet because it will not.
Revits schedules are horizontal fields - not vertical. 2015 allows you to use images in a schedule so schedule your wall type per family in a horizontal schedule.

You can't put schedules in a drafting view.

I missed ...or maybe just disregarded your statement about using a drafting view. Again, Revit has maybe some more powerful ways of doing this. Legends.....
We have a resource project that has just about every interior wall type already set up in it and documented in legends. Then we simply copy the legend with material notes into our project wall types legend. This brings along the wall definition so we now can use that. Here is a small example of some of the material tagged and noted legend components.
