When I extend the U-drain my grating extends beyond the u-drain.  I have review the family and the parameters set in it. 

This is my first, So not really familiar with it all........

I would never model the grating because that tends to overload the model.  A material is adequate for this and will appear to be correct.  Modeling is great if your selling grating.

Something is wrong with your array setup.  The spacing between bars increase as your size increases.  Thae spacing should remain constant.
