What I am looking for are people that I can pick their brain on how to do this in Revit. I have done a lot type of work in AutoCAD however this type of project will be my first for Revit (and this would my fifth project for my entire Revit experience)
I being pulled into a possible Environmental Remediation project that they want to use Revit instead of AutoCAD to
- build the model of the current conditions of an existing building
- then annotate points within the model to indicate locations where samples taken
- Then have those annotations contain parameters contain values that reflects desired information by the scientist; for example
- Surface ID #
- Sample #
- Location X Y & Z values
- Material of Host that the annotation is connected to. (I.E. The wall is constructed of GWB, CMU, Metal Panel, etc.)
- Export the values of those parameters out to be linked up to environmental database.
- Apply Filters to the Revit Model to visually indicate where work still needs to happen.
Like I said I am trying to see if someone has done anything remotely similar.

All of this sounds like it'd be relatively simple to do within Revit. You will need to 'build' custom tags and annotations containing the parameters you want (Surface ID #,Sample #,Location X Y & Z values,Material of Host that the annotation is connected to) but there are plenty of tutorials on family creation, shared parameters, etc. The Revit help file has a lot on this.
Then you can schedule the information and export to Excel.

Create a generic model, face based family that contains the shared parameters you will be using. Create a tag that reads those parameters. Place the family and tag it.

Okay how do I get a parameter to report the location of the family with in the model? Much like a spot elevation can show the X, Y, & Z values.

Here is a post that discusses how this might have been done but it takes a special app.

Okay I have not found how to read the Host system parameter so I can schedule it. Has this been done before? Can it be done?
Reason is that I could have somewhere up to 1800 instances in the model and I want as much automation as possible.
