Hello. My name is Brad and I am trying to teach myself to use Revit 2014.
For a long time now i have wanted to go to school for architectural drafting and design but being the soul provider for my family and being at good company to work for, i just dont have the time or money to go to school for it... However, I have played with this idea in my head for a while now...
I currently work for an electrical supply wholesale house and lighting is a huge part of our business. I run the inventory there and i cant tell you how many times i have had to return upwards of $20,000 in light fixtures and lamps because the customer didnt like the way they look in their home or business. I feel it would be benificial to my company and a great service to customers if they could see what the fixtures would look like in their home or business before they buy. It would make the customer happy knowing that they will get something they like and make less work for us. I want to learn this software to hopefully make this idea reality. We have a lighting specialist but the only visual he can give the customer is a picture from a catalog and what he draws on the blueprints. I want to be able to virtually create the customers space and show them anything from a new chandalier, adding can lighting, or even adding/updating exterior lighting.
As far as i know none of our competitors offer this service.. I wish to learn this progam so when i feel comfortable with it i can put together a proposal for the higher ups in my company to maybe add this into our company... Its a long shot but if i fail, at least i will have some experiance with the program whenever i can go to school....
So my question is what is the best way to teach myself this program? Ive seen a few books, dvds, and online tutorials but is one media better than the other? (im sure opinions will differ)
If there are any of you who taught this to yourself, which way and programs worked best for you?
Thanks and sorry for the long read.
Brad
