good afternoon. i'm using Revit 2014, and have an issue with clearances. the project that i'm working on, i'm modeling the Electrical as part of a coordinated effort. i have taken the items (VFD's, Panels, Light Fixtures...etc.) and added a clearance to them. i created a new subcatagory in the family for Electrical clearance, and have it working in revit. it looks right, and i can strech them up and down to the floor and ceiling. when i export the 3d view to either .dwg, or .nwc it makes the equipment, or light fixture, and the clearance into one item with only 1 layer. the BIM coordinator for the project wants to see it in .dwg with a seperate layer for the clearance, so that he can have visibility control to make the clearance semi-transparent and the item solid. i have looked, and can't figure out what is going wrong. any ideas?

Vinny - I don't do MEP but I think your problem is category..... What if you make this item a sperate nested family in a different category.  You could run a quick test by loading a simple family into yours ... doesn't have to be correct for the test.

i still don't know what i'm doing wrong. i started with a Electrical Equipment family model. i then inserted a Electrical Devices family item into it. then i loaded that into my model and exported that to .dwg. it still only has the electrical equipment layer in autocad.

Was the nested family shared?

i don't think so.... do i need to use shared parameters to make this work. i don't have much experience using them.
