How does everyone do their project numbering? My company does consecutive numbering- in CAD files we have 60K files, each with their own filing number, from the past 20 years. We had a tool that took care of this and we are able to search within that tool. In our transition to Revit we are trying to find a way to assign a project number automatically.

We'd want the first file to be something like 00-01, and the second file created (even from Save As, ideally) to be 00-02.

Is there a way to do this "out of the box" or would it require custom API?

If your coming from 2008... you will probably need hearing aids after awhile.......

Why do you start from one when we have a calendar based on years?  Our project number is year - then which project sequentially for that year starting at 001.  So the first project this year was 14001.  Our book-keeper assigns project numbers and creates the project folders from a template.  Main directory folders are year.
