So I created a stringer profile using a railing template and in the properties i set it to stair support, then loaded it into my project. When I go down in my project browser families-stairs-stringer then i duplicate the stinger and edit it, the newly designed profile that i loaded does not show up in the drop down for proflies. The profile is listed in my project browser under families-profiles, so I know it is loaded into the project.
Is there a way to get the profile to show up in the stinger edit profile drop down menu? Or is there some other menu I have to use to access it in order to use it as a stinger.
Thank you once again for the help

This is one of those areas where autodesk goofed. If you look at the built-in stair definition, the stringer that is loaded is set to generic. Change your usage to generic instead of stair support.

I changed it to gerneric and reloaded it, I even tried starting a new project just to try it out and it still did not appear under stingers. Is there something else I have to do to it appear there? I forgot to mention i am using revit 2014

Sorry to be a bother but I've realized its not what I'm looking for, I do want then to act like stringers so i can cut the ends how I want, when I set the family to railing and use it as a railing it does not let me do this. So when i set it to generic it does not show up in my pull down when i duplicate and edit stringers in my project browser, any ideas?

Ok finally solved, I am not sure why it worked this way but I assigned the profile to generic then saved it as a different name, then loaded it into the project and it appered in the drop down in the edit stringer properties. I did not work when I saved it after altering it and loaded into the project overriding the properties of the previous.
