I'm currently working on my first hotel project and am running into an issue when trying to elevate/callout typical guestroom types. The project is a 200 room hotel with 18 guestroom types. These rooms are likely to change location on each floor throughout the project, however the content in each room will not change. I would like to start enlarged plans/elevations/enlarged restrooms of each of the typical room types, however I don't know where I should take my callout from as no room is in a permanent location.
It is as if I need a 3d legend of each room type. I considered copying each room 500 feet off to the side and taking my callout from there, however i run into many extra doors/windows/furniture that will need to be filtered from schedules. Not to mention the core/shell model is provided by another architect and would also need to be copied and moved 500 feet so that my rooms are contained. I could move the typical room types into a seperate model, however I feel this would be duplicating my work because I still need to show overall floor plans in my main model so any change in one would need to occur in the other model. I'm assuming this is a common occurence in hospitality and multifamily projects however I can't seem to find a solution. Any helpful feedback would be welcomed.

We have been using Revit for hotels for almost 10 years now and we have done several things.
- Doing the rooms in a design option (you have to include some copied shell walls.
- Doing the rooms off in space. Set the schedulable items so they don't schedule. (We use a project parameter ... DO NOT SCHEDULE)
- Setting up seperate working plans for room callouts and thus using a typical room within the project.
- Setting up a separate linked project for rooms. (Is transferable between projects.)
Some thoughts:
- Design Options means only one person can work modifying rooms
- Off in space.... creates potential view problems - duplicate items - possible confusion for consultants
- Working plans - good solution but not transferable
- Linked project - PITA - seperate model to maintain but is transferable.
I would suggest that you don't populate your model with all rooms furnished. That you really think hard about groups and what should be included in them. (I don't think rooms do.. maybe just initially.) Change one little item in a group and you have to wait for all rooms to update.
We only schedule one set of room doors which have been removed from the group being used throughout the model.
