Why isnt the footing shown as a hidden line when its below a slab.

You need to tell us more. Is your view set to Hidden Line? Is the view range cut above the slab? Are they showing as continuous lines now? Are you using the Show hidden lines on the View tab?

Hidden line view does not mean you see hidden lines. They are hidden.
Actual hidden lines in Revit do not show automatically. You have to tell Revit you want to see them. Read this topic in your HELP:
