Do I need to duplicate each existing view seperately and change the phase settings to create working views for the next phase. Also should I change phase filter away from " None", which is default before creating new phases.

If you are showing a new plan your phase will be set to new and phase filter will be set to show previous and new.. If you are showing a demolitio plan your phase will be set to new and your phase filter will be set to show previous and demo. These are 2 different views so you would need 2 different plans.
