We have machines with Quadro cards (FX 3800) and after migrating the projects to the latest version of revit (2014 update 2) we experiencing constant graphic card/revit crashes. Yesterday it crashed 3 times during the day. 2 of those with recovery file. Suddently, the screens turn off for a second and we are presented with a revit crash warning / report. It happens in many different circunstances, on ratating 3d views, paning 3d views, placing dimensions (or trying to do so on non paralell walls/lines), etc. We are using certified autodesk drivers by Nvidia for revit 2014. Is anybody having the same problems? Quadro cards as suppose to have the professionally developed drivers, but... All our pcs are Xeons with ECC memory.
We've contacted the Autodesk graphic driver department and sent journals. We hope the next service pack clears these errors because we never experienced these crashes on revit 2013 or earlier.

I haven't heard of this issue from anyone else. Does this happen on all of your machines? Does it happen on more than one project or just one project specifically?

This happens on 2 different machines, and on 2 different projects.

You may want to contact your re-seller or autodesk and tell them the problems that you are having.

We exchanged some e-mails with the Autodesk department that certifies hardware during the last weeks. The Quadro FX 3800 is not yet showing on their list of certified graphic card, however according to them has now been tested and "passed" (on a new revit update??). On NVIDIA's website the Quadro FX3800 is certified for Revit 2014 - even though Autodesk does not list it. Conclusion, a lot of contradicting information, and we have not received any fix to the problem yet.

I think you may need a driver update.

I think you are right. Either a new Nvidia driver or an Revit 2014 update.
We are using:
Version:
307.45 WHQL
Release Date:
2012.11.19
Operating System:
Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-tesla-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-307.45-whql-driver.html
That's the driver that NVIDIA says it's certified for revit 2014.

archigrafix,
I can't see how a program can be written to support every card but I can see how a card can have it's driver written to support a program. I believe your problem is with the card.
We use some pretty cheap cards and they work just fine.

archigrafix.
I am running into the same problem. My card is an older Nvidia 9800 GT and was running absolutly fine until the February windows patch was introduced. Now the card is crashing constantly, it started last week after I installed the update. My software is update and I recently installed the most current Nvidia drivers. I tried rolling the system back before the patch and installing the previous good Nvidia drivers but that didn't help. It's definately something with Nvidia drivers as I also have a Nvidia card in my laptop which also started crashing out just last week. I say it's with Nvidia drivere but this problem was caused by Microsoft and their constant barriage of patches to fix their crap operating system.
I'm looking for some type of fix as this is cutting into my production time and my wallet and I have to get it fixed some how this week. It may require moving to a different video card manufacturer, ATI perhaps. I would really like to jump to a Mac (no I'm not a mac head, yet) but I don't have the $$$ at the moment.
Should I find a solution I'll post it here, please recipricate if you figure ouf anything on your end!
Cheers,

Archigrafix: Did you ever find an answer to this issue? I am having the same issue with three of my stations. Same cards as you and same version of Revit. All on Windows 7 x64. I have tried the latest Nvidia driver (9.18.13.3311) and it made it more unstable. I just rolled it back to (8.17.12.5981) to see if it minimizes the video crashing. At least with that driver version it was less often. If or even if you did not find an answer, please let me know.

I've updated to the latest Nvidia drivers and that seemed to help for a while. But the errors are so random that it's hard to keep track on the fix.
At the moment I no longer use a Quadro Fx3800, I am using a Quadro 4000. A few of my colegues still work with the 3800 and often complain that revit crashed when placing dimensions.
I am very disapointed that Nvidia and Autodesk do not manage to solve these isues.

Thanks for replying. It sounds like there is no true fix for it. I installed the latest driver for the 3800 and it actually made it worse. I rolled it back and have turned off hardware exceleration. We shall see if that makes it less unstable. I don't want to buy new graphic cards if I don't have to.

I'm surprised the FX3800 is still having drivers developed for it. A lot of manufacturer's have set "end of life" policies that can now be measured in months. The Quadro 4000 is a fantasitic card, even a Quadro K2000 would work well for better performance and roughly the same cost as a 4000. It will be another 3 to 4 years before both of those are past their limits.

It seems that there are more crashes when using these supposed Professional Cards. I crashed so many times in the last month with the same card (Quadro FX3800). Never had this problem with my home PC which a GTX 680. Turning off Hardware Acceleration just slows the rotations and regenerations of views. It is a hassle. We shouldn't have to have this many problems with a supposed professional graphics card.
Autodesk should stop "certifying" cards. It is a marketing ploy that is frankly costing way too much money, time, and resources.
