i am working on two similar building at the same time. In one project I can see the wall patterns (in 1/8" scale , course) in the other I can't. What gives?

Not enough information to help you out. What Revit version, do you have all the updates isntalled? Are the buildings in the same file? Same phase? Design options? Same material? Same exact wall?

We don't have the file so we can only guess.
- Similar is not same... examine the wall makup to see if they are the same
- examine the material settings for the materials specified for the wall layers
- is the pattern (hatch) the same ?
- Now look at your VG settings and possibly view templates - do you have filters? Are those the same file to file?
